Steve Rovery and Bryan Flowers, members of American Television, have spent the better half of decade putting on punk rock events in DC. Their largest event, Breakin’ Even Fest, celebrated its last year at Pie Shop from August 9-11. Parklife’s James Miller was there for the last two nights to capture some of the action.
The 2024 lineup included MakeWar (Fat Wreck Chords), Brendan Kelly of The Lawrence Arms (Red Scare), The Dopamines (Rad Girlfriend), The Iron Roses (Iodine Recording), Keep Flying, and American Television (Smartpunk). The festival also included new artists like Endlings, Cherub Tree, Over Our Eyes, Truth or Dare, and several more.

“Breakin’ Even” was not hyperbole. The two founders make sure 100% of the money generated from the event and sponsors are cycled back to the artists on the festival, making it a labor of love.
“Breakin’ Even is about celebrating the bands, the community, and everything that goes into making music happen, they want to show that music does not stop at the stage – it’s everywhere,” Rovery and Flowers said in a statement.
