Acclaimed seven-piece band The Dip released a third full-length studio album, Sticking With It, last year via Dualtone Records. The rhythm and blues group now performs at 9:30 Club on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Produced by the band and recorded at their self-made studio in Seattle’s Central District, the record debuted at No. 1 on the Current R&B Albums chart as well as No. 2 on the New Artist Albums chart. Across its 11 tracks, Sticking With It encapsulates the contagious energy of The Dip’s live shows and builds on their breakthrough grassroots success, which already includes over 100 million streams to-date.
Reflecting on the new album, drummer Jarred Katz said, “It’s really important to us to catch those lightning-in-a-bottle moments when you can feel the momentum of a song taking shape…one of the main goals for the album was to create that feeling of all of us in a room together, instead of worrying too much about everything lining up perfectly,” while lead singer Tom Eddy adds, “With the lyrics I tried to evoke certain emotions that aren’t often showcased in popular music, with the hope that people will come away feeling validated or understood.”

In addition to The Dip — Tom Eddy (vocals, guitar), Jarred Katz (drums), Brennan Carter (trumpet), Levi Gillis (tenor sax), Mark Hunter (bass), Jacob Lundgren (guitar), and Evan Smith (baritone sax) — Sticking With It also features F.A.M.E.’S. Studio Orchestra, a Macedonia-based string ensemble, and background vocals from Vanessa Bryan, Dasha Chadwick, and Nic Jackson.
Since forming, The Dip has released prior two full-length albums, 2015’s The Dip and 2019’s The Dip Delivers, as well as two EPs, 2016’s Won’t Be Coming Back and 2020’s instrumental, The Dip Plays It Cool — all of which were written, produced and released by the band themself.
With these releases, The Dip continues to receive widespread attention, with KEXP Radio declaring, “one of the most exciting and joyous acts to emerge in recent years.” Moreover, Rolling Stone praised The Dip Delivers saying, “cranks out a retro song worthy of an Eldorado’s FM stereo” and No Depression proclaimed, “a heart-felt homage to the originators presented masterfully by a new generation.”
