At age 71, Debbie Harry is still rocking out with the best of them, and indeed she will soon release an 11th studio album with Blondie — Pollinator on May 5 via BMG.
To celebrate, Blondie have teamed up with Garbage for a summer tour, the Rage and Rapture Tour, which lands at Wolf Trap on Thursday, Aug. 3.
Blondie of course consists of Debbie, Chris Stein (guitarist), and Clem Burke (drums) alongside Leigh Foxx (bass), Tommy Kessler (guitar), and Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboards). Their new album contains 11 catchy tracks composed by pop powerhouses, Sia, Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Charli XCX, Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio), Nick Valensi (The Strokes), and Johnny Marr (The Smiths).
“This is music as it’s supposed to be,” said Debbie, “filled with spirit, fun, and true soul.”
The first single “Fun,” was accompanied by a video directed by Dikayl Rimmasch (Beyonce’s “Lemonade”) for a track Debbie and Chris cowrote with Dave Sitek. Watch the official music video for “Fun” by Blondie on YouTube:
Meanwhile, the original four members of Garbage are still going strong. Joining Blondie on the Rage and Rapture Tour are Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig. They took a seven-year hiatus but returned in 2012 with a fifth album, Not Your Kind of People.
Last year, Garbage released Strange Little Birds, their sixth studio album and their second via their own label Stunvolume, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums chart. This summer, Garbage will publish an autobiographical coffee table book, This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake.
