DC indie songstress Maryjo Mattea opens DC rockers One Way Out at DC9 on Friday, Jan. 11. Show up early to catch Maryjo!
As a performer, Maryjo has drawn comparisons to post-grunge artists like Alanis Morissette and Liz Phair. In addition to her original music as a solo artist, she is also a member of Two Dragons and a Cheetah, a grunge-garage rock duo, and Color Palette, an electro-rock group. She also occasionally plays bass with synthpop act Loi Loi.

In a review, Surviving the Golden Age praised the new single: “The track is reminiscent of Liz Phair, a mixture of grunge rock with pop sensibilities but with Maryjo Mattea’s powerful, unique voice. Listening to the first half of the “The Other Side,” it does not sound like a natural fit to feature a rapper but Cody Valentine masters the jagged rhythmic structure with his unorthodox flow.”
