The Church return for a US tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal album Starfish. Steve Kilby and company will perform at The Birchmere on Thursday, April 18, and you can win tickets to go with Parklife DC.
The Church will play Starfish in its entirety along with a selection of tracks from their 26 album catalog. The Starfish Anniversary tour has taken the band across the globe, to the UK, their native Australia, and the first American leg this past fall. The Church released the album, which was the fifth for the band, in 1988, introducing enduring songs like “Under the Milky Way” and “Reptile.”
Guitarist Peter Koppes said of the band: “Music is like inner space and we’re astronauts,” he says. It’s a spellbinding thing, it’s hypnotizing. That’s why people like it. It takes them into another world and we’re here to open those doors.”

My favorite song by The Church is “Ripple.” 🙂
“Under The Milky Way” is perhaps too obvious a choice, but it is their perfect pop song. My other favorite from the “Starfish” album is “Reptile”. The tambourine as the rattlesnake’s tail is brilliant! “Metropolis” rounds out my Top 3.
Awesome Church is touring! Favorite song “Reptile “…
Of course their order albums were great, but really love the song “Numbers” on their 2002 album “After everything now this”. Great song!! ❤️
Would love to see them!
“Under the Milky Way” is gold but since I first heard them while living in Texas in the 80s, I’ll throw out “Texas Moon” – and “Reptile” is good, too- They all are! Beautiful venue to be able to see them perform, too!
“Under the Milkyway”, such a beautiful song. Takes me way back…
“Under The Milky Way” which, coincidentally, I heard on the radio Monday evening on Delmarva Public Radio.
