Terry Chambers — the legendary drummer of British rock band XTC — is back touring North America with EXTC (named and backed by XTC leader Andy Partridge) performing songs not heard live since the original band stopped touring in 1982.
EXTC have embarked on a US tour, and the band perform at City Winery DC on Tuesday, April 5!
With hits including “Dear God,” “Senses Working Overtime,” “Mayor of Simpleton,” “Making Plans for Nigel,” and more, XTC was one of the UK’s most exciting bands. In the early ’80s, the band’s success snowballed, taking in globe-trotting spells with rock royalty like The Police and Talking Heads.
XTC frontman Andy Partridge never undertook an extended tour after 1982, leaving many of the band’s songs unperformed for the past 40 years. Now, Terry and EXTC bring a full set of classic XTC songs to North American audiences. The band also plans to release and perform new material that honors XTC’s legacy while forging an exciting musical future.
“It’s strange that I’m back playing in North America where, almost 40 years ago to the day, XTC stopped touring,” said Terry. “The other XTC members won’t tour, so we’re out there as EXTC, giving it our all. And we’re loving every minute. Because that’s where we want to be — on the road giving people the best night out we can. What better way to spend the rest of our days?”

EXTC includes drummer Terry, frontman Steve Tilling (who previously worked with Terry in TC&I), guitarist Steve Hampton, and bassist Matt Hughes.
What’s in store for this show? A full set of classic XTC songs, spanning the band’s 20-plus-year career, from their Monkees-meets-Captain-Beefheart roots to the pastoral pop of later albums. And all delivered with the same fire and passion witnessed in XTC’s gigging heyday, which included worldwide tours with The Police and Talking Heads.
Artists worldwide — including Blur, They Might Be Giants, Steven Wilson, Kaiser Chiefs, Field Music, Everything Everything, and Franz Ferdinand — cite XTC as a major influence. The band is also often compared reverentially to acts including The Who, The Kinks, and The Beatles.
