Brooklyn ensemble Sammy Rae & The Friends started the year 2024, with exciting developments, including the release of a new song, “Coming Home Song.” After releasing the song, the band launched a tour, which included two recent sold-out nights at 9:30 Club!

On the first of those two nights, Sammy Rae & The Friends closed their encore with “Coming Home Song. Steve Satzberg was there to photograph the show!

The following article is adapted from a press release.

On Feb. 17, Sammy Rae & The Friends performed at 9:30 Club, presenting about 14 songs for the packed club. The set included at least three unreleased songs, including “Luck of the Draw,” “David,” and “Thieves,” all of which may appear on the band’s full-length debut album, set for release later this year.

That album certainly will include “Coming Home Song.” In the spirit of true ethos of The Friends, “Coming Home Song” speaks to treating yourself like you’d treat a best friend and encourages self-compassion.

For as much as Sammy Rae & The Friends may be a band, this collective of dreamers and artists considers themselves a family first. Fronted by singer and songwriter Sammy Rae, the group flourishes in any spotlight with a combination of all-for-one and one-for-all camaraderie, palpable chemistry, deft virtuosity, and vocal fireworks.

Their sound is a mélange of Sammy’s influences, rooted in classic rock, folk, and funk and sprinkled with soul and jazz. Complete with a rhythm section and two saxophones, The Friends had a stellar year of high-energy performances throughout 2023 playing their biggest shows and festivals to date, including Central Park Summerstage, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and their first-ever international headline tour, which saw them selling out venues from North America to the UK and Europe, including London’s 5,000 cap Apollo Theatre two times. Sammy Rae began her career with the release of Sugar in 2016. In 2018, she was joined by The Friends for the release of their first EP, The Good Life. Last year, the band released a live album, Sammy Rae & The Friends Live: The If It All Goes South Tour.

Sammy Rae & The Friends continue their current tour through March! As you can see in Steve’s pix, the show itself is a party you should join.
