Earlier this month, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors teamed up with their Spring headline tour opener and Juno Award winning Canadian artist Donovan Woods for a new single, “For Some Reason.” The song was among the new tunes that the band played when it recently visited 9:30 Club!

Steve Satzberg was there to photograph the show.

The following article is adapted from a press release.

On April 10 at 9:30 Club, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors played four new songs, which are slated to appear on Strangers No More Volume II, the band’s 10th studio album, in September.

Last June, the band released Strangers No More, which included their No. 1 Americana hit “Find Your People” and breakout singer “Dance With Everybody.” Drew and his bandmates began his 9:30 Club show with that first song and closed their encore with the latter.

New songs making their DC debut at the 9:30 Club show included “For Some Reason” (performed about two-thirds into the concert with Donovan Woods) and also “Green Light,” “Without a Light,” and “Suffering.”

Speaking about “Suffering,” Holcomb said, “One of our guiding principles when we recorded the 21 songs of Strangers No More was to let the song tell us how to record it. What that means is not to let past recording habits and sonic choices dictate how we record these new songs. I wrote this song from the well of all my love of rock n roll. It’s a stanza song telling the story of people lost in their circumstances, which we as humans often have so little control of. We all suffer, it’s a part of the deal, and singing it as loud as I can in the bullet of a rock song makes it feel like we are all in this together. Here is one of my favorite recordings we have ever made. We give you…‘Suffering.’”

In the pictures below, you’ll see Drew Holcomb and the band, which consists of Nathan Dugger (guitar), Rich Brinsfield (bass), Will Sayles (drums), and Ian Miller (keys). We also have a picture of Donovan Woods. You’ll also see Drew singing with a man in a ball cap! That’s Jac Thompson, who also handled merch duties for the band.
