What do sequins, bluegrass music, and light shows have in common? They were all at The Anthem on the first of two recent nights when Greensky Bluegrass made a stop in DC on their 2025 Winter Tour with support from rock band Moon Taxi.
At The Anthem, the band’s dedicated fans showed up, decked out in all kinds of looks from matching sequin outfits, cowboy hats to match, to light up headbands. They cheered happy birthday for a bandmate, wrote signs at the barricade, and were excited to get the bands’ attention.
Greensky Bluegrass, a genre-blending jam band, incorporates rock, jam-band improvisation, and traditional bluegrass elements into their over 25-year career. Formed in 2000 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, their current members include Paul Hoffman, Dave Bruzza, Michael Arlen Bont, Mike Devol, and Anders Beck. They create their unique sound with instruments like the banjo, dobro, guitar, and upright bass, creating electric effects, extended jams, and rock-influenced arrangements.
On Feb. 7 at The Anthem, Greensky Bluegrass lined up on the stage, and their light production was elaborate and captivating, playing with strobes and shadows notably. It was a full light show with their music! They also dazzled fans with four covers — two from Steppin’ In It, one from Jimmy Martin, and another by Traveling Wilburys.
