The sold-out crowd of predominantly women, stood, screamed, danced, and sang along with Paris during her show. The entire evening, by both opener and headliner, was inspiring and captivating from beginning to the end.
Paris Paloma is currently on tour in the United States in support of her first record titled Cacophony, and she appeared at the Lincoln Theatre on March 8.
Paloma’s performance was not only insightful with her brilliantly written songs but also was highly articulate. Paloma, a singer-songwriter from the United Kingdom, was thrilled to be in DC during the annual women’s event and provided a happy International Women’s Day greeting to all in attendance during the initial part of the performance.
Paloma and her two-piece band captivated the audience with excellent instrumentation during the show, which also featured candle-like lighting, and a colorful stage visuals throughout the evening.
Sarah Julia, a sister duo from Rotterdam, dressed in all white attire. They played a brilliant opening set showcasing their great vocals, harmonies, and acoustic playing. The sisters received numerous applause and standing ovations from fans throughout their set, and after the show stood signing autograph for fans for several minutes. The songs they played were profoundly crafted and as they described them as a place, they can find comfort in when life gets to the overwhelming part. Paloma’s show of lights, acoustics, and vocals ranks as one of the best shows I have seen in DC this year. To say the show was aesthetically pleasing was probably an understatement. The entire set was filled with dynamic lighting and brilliant colors. Fans of Paloma’s stood pretty much the entire show and sang during all songs.
At one point, Paloma stopped the show and asked each of the people in attendance to turn and introduce themselves as she seeked to build more camaraderie as she described the attendees as “wonderful people,” for whom she was very grateful.
Paloma is a captivating performer with beautiful vocals and strong lyrical content. The highlight of the evening during a night that each song played a great role in the overall impact of the performance, was Paloma’s captivating delivery of “The Rider” from the Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Paloma’s voice stunned and captivated all in the great venue during this song of near perfection. Paloma described her work with the film as a “magical experience.”
