Swedish hardcore punks Refused recently played at The Atlantis in DC on their farewell tour, Refused Are Fucking Dead (and This Time They Really Mean It) North America 2025 Tour.

Ben Eisendrath was there to photograph the action, and he particularly captured the raw energy of frontman Dennis Lyxzén in performance.

At The Atlantis on March 20, Refused burned hot through an 18-song setlist, dedicating about half the show to their third studio album, The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts (1998).

But the band surprised from the very beginning with a first-ever live performance of “Poetry Written in Gasoline” from The New Noise Theology EP (1998). What a way to say good-bye!

In November, Refused marked the 25th anniversary of The Shape of Punk to Come with the release of a re-issue via Epitaph Records! At the same time, Epitaph released a 12-track tribute album, The Shape of Punk to Come Obliterated.

At The Altantis, a sweaty crowd basked in the fury of songs like “The Deadly Rhythm” from The Shape of Punk to Come.
