Soul and Romance came to Baltimore in a big way! The October Nights: Calling All Lovers Tour recently stopped at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. The tour was dually led by October London and Tamar Braxton. The two opened the show with support from Joe Leone Ro James. The 24-city tour was powered by The Black Promoters Collective.
Joe Leone was the first act to perform for the show on April 24. Joe shared he was signed to Eric Benet’s label. After his performance I’m sure he made Mr. Benet proud. Leone sang in such a sultry way that it made the crowd sway in their seats. It was my first time hearing him perform and I must admit he attracted all my attention. The Los Angeles based crooner shared he has new music on the way and I’m excited to hear what’s next.
Ro James took the stage next, in leopard print and whole lot of swag. It was clear he was there to impress the ladies. James sang hits such as “Burn Slow” and fan favorite “Permission.” By the end of the set couple grew closer and fans became greater admirers. His stage presence was magnetic, and I often caught myself smiling in that amazement. James the news that he no longer is signed to a music label. He boasted about that freedom and let it be known that new music is on the way!
One of my favorite artists graced the stage next. DMV’s own Tamar Braxton hit the stage under low lights and a colored silhouette display. She showed off her figure as the anticipation built. When the lights came on, Braxton was dressed in all black and adorned with luxurious feathers. Although her look caught everyone’s attention, it was her powerhouse vocals that kept it there. Braxton has always been one of the great voices of our time. If you never had the chance to see her live, you really must knock that off of your bucket list. She began her set with a “Angels & Demons” and followed up with “The One.”

Tamar paused the show to dim the lights and give an emotional tribute to her late sister Traci as “Last Call” played. In normal Tamar fashion, she closed her performance with “Love & War,” and invited members of the audience to join her to sing. It’s always fun to watch fans join in on the fun but it was one fan who stood out and brought the crowd to their feet. A young autistic man sang his heart out! After he was done, Braxton shared the young man was autistic and it was his wish to sing with her on stage.
October London wrapped up the show and did so with flair. London is known for his impressive suits and shades; tonight was no different. He was tailored to perfection. October began his set with a tease of “Slander My Name.” He then sang his hit song “She Keeps Calling,” all while taking calculated sips of his Premium Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

London’s soulful voice was soothing and comforting. His stage presence was seductive and passionate. His female backup singers aided in the illusions of desire. London proves why his still one to watch after over a decade in the game.
