Alison Moyet, one of the most remarkable pop vocalists of the last several decades, is touring again in support of a new album, Key, and she recently played an outstanding show at The Fillmore Silver Spring. Moyet is selling out shows all over the globe at this time, and catching this tour is a must for her fans.
On April 29 at The Fillmore Silver Spring, the show was at near-capacity for a Tuesday night in the DC area. The performance featured new songs by Moyet as well as some of her biggest hits over the last 40 years. For this appearance, the English singer-songwriter had no opening band, but it was really not needed. Her set was fantastic from beginning to end and featured Moyet’s internationally known voice in top form with a two-piece band that worked extremely well with her.
Seeing Moyet was a chance to reconnect to one of the definitive voices in the 1980s and finally get to see her up close and in concert. It was well worth the wait. Moyet was upbeat and very personal with the audience during the performance emphasizing this show was not just about coming back to DC to play the hits like “All Cried Out” and “Love Resurrection” but also to highlight the new music off the current album. These two classic Moyet tracks were re-worked for the new Key album, and sound as fresh as ever and more dynamic with Moyet’s beautiful voice delivering these newer versions.

Moyet sang from the heart and left it all on stage during her performance. At one point, she told the audience in attendance that the older you get, the more impervious you get and quit worrying too much about everything such as not fitting in. You adjust by getting rid of the internal voices that are holding you back.
Arguably in her best form ever, Moyet played through a highly satisfying set of dynamic blues and dance songs at The Fillmore Silver Spring.
Her concert performance also featured songs from her time in the band Yazoo (known in the ’80s as Yaz in the USA) — songs such as “Nobody’s Diary” and “Situation.” But the real energy came from the crowd during her upbeat, dance-influenced tunes. “Love Resurrection”, arguably her best song ever, was fantastic in concert, and left the fans definitely wanting more of her ’80s era music. The version on Key is haunting, with updated dance influence, and solidifies the enduring greatness of the song.
