Two decades, six albums, multiple world tours, and a variety of solo projects under their belt, the vital force that is Bloc Party hit the road in celebration of their beloved debut record, Silent Alarm. Kele Okereke and company perform live at The Anthem in DC on Monday, June 2.

Kicking off at Goldenvoice’s Just Like Heaven festival, the tour marks Bloc Party’s biggest North America tour to date.

The tour is primed to be incredibly special as the group will perform their greatest hits with an emphasis on their debut record Silent Alarm, which was released 20 years ago and still remains as integral to the cultural zeitgeist as it did when it came out. In 2023, “This Modern Love” from Silent Alarm, was notably featured in Emerald Fennell’s film Saltburn starring Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan, drawing in a new generation of listeners.

For our money, we are always happy to hear “Helicopter” any time!

Joining Bloc Party as openers are Blonde Redhead and joan.

Blonde Redhead — the beloved rock trio of Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace — most recently released The Shadow of the Guest via section1. The Shadow of the Guest is a dreamy, slightly uncanny reimagining of their critically acclaimed 2023 album Sit Down for Dinner. Enlisting the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, the album offers newly expanded versions of multiple songs, including today’s single, “Before (Choir Version),” a mariachi-inspired rendition of the Rick and Morty-featured internet hit “For The Damaged Coda,” and a series of ambient ASMR reworks. It is a surreal companion piece to Sit Down for Dinner exploring themes of innocence, nostalgia, and sonic curiosity.

Alt-pop band joan, who have garnered over 200 million global streams and more than one million monthly listeners across streaming platforms, recently released their latest singles, “face” and “magic,” via Photo Finish Records. Written and produced by joan (Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford), the band just completed their SPRING headline tour and released a collaboration with K-pop group EPEX. joan will now join Bloc Party on their upcoming ’20 Years of Bloc Party’ headline tour and are gearing up for a new album out this Fall!

The new single “face” follows joan’s recently released tracks, “magic” “heartbodymindsoul” and “eyes,” marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the band since their 2023 debut album, superglue. Known for crafting music in their recently built Little Rock, AR home studio, joan has also worked on collaborations with artists like Mckenna Grace and J-pop sensation NOA.
