Rusowsky brought playful, offbeat energy to 9:30 Club on April 1. Originally set for The Atlantis, the show was moved to the larger venue due to high demand. From the first note, humor, musicianship, and raw energy defined the night, keeping the performance engaging and exciting.

The evening opened with Carlian, a reggaeton artist from Ponce, Puerto Rico, whose rhythm-heavy set energized the crowd. Rusowsky’s four bandmates took the stage in black bob wigs, sunglasses, joggers, mustaches, and white sneakers, setting a playful tone. Moments later, Rusowsky appeared in a red bob wig, Mickey Mouse hoodie, grey joggers, and low-slung pants revealing plaid boxers and a studded belt. Even the onstage camera operator joined in with a matching wig.

The 25-year-old Madrid-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Ruslán Mediavilla has become a standout figure in Spain’s experimental alternative scene. His stage name merges his nickname, “Rus,” with Wazowski from Monsters Inc., reflecting the inventive storytelling behind his music. Through Spanish pop, electronic textures, and trap influences, he crafts songs that express his inner world with wit and vulnerability. On the DAISY Tour, he’s debuting his latest album Daisy for audiences across the United States.

Despite performing in an orthopedic boot after breaking two toes back in March, Rusowsky moved with ease. He opened with “Johnny Glamour,” which drew very enthusiastic reactions. Backed by his band, he rotated guitars often throughout the 80-minute set, blending electronic production with live instrumentation. His soft, dreamy voice carried across the venue as he sang in both English and Spanish, often speaking to the audience in Spanglish. Through the night he also made sure to stay hydrated with a beer within reach.

Some highlights of Rukowsky’s performance included “ecco,” where he showed his piano skills on keyboard, creating a deeply emotional moment. “SOPHIA,” an urban bachata, had people dancing across the packed floor. During “KINKI FÍGARO,” he leaped into the air as if defying gravity despite his boot. “pink + pink” energized the crowd with flamenco rhythms, castanets, and palmadas, while “malibU” drew one of the biggest reactions. For “mwah :3,” which he called the romantic moment of the night, fans turned on their phone flashes, swaying them in unison.

As the set neared its end, the crowd called for an encore. Rusowsky returned and promised one last song — but only if everyone moved their @ss—prompting cheers. He performed “Dolores,” thanked the audience, proudly noted that he and his band came from Spain, introduced each band member, blew kisses galore, and tossed a few Daisy yellow merch T-shirts into the crowd.

The night closed with “VALENTINO,” ending on a celebratory high, leaving fans clearly wanting more.
