Legendary classic rock band Little Feat are currently on tour in the USA and calling their series The Last Final Farewell Tour. The band — which started way back in 1969 — continues today and are in great form for a band considering touring for the last time. Hopefully, we get to see them play a few more years, but if the band does hang up their touring shoes, the recent show in Ocean City, Maryland, was definitely a fantastic display of the greatness of this band. They were brilliant from the beginning to the final song played.

Little Feat originated from Los Angeles and have seen several members of the band come and go since the loss of the founder Lowell George in 1979. Bill Payne, the current pianist/keyboardist helped co-found the band with George. George had started Little Feat after losing his job in Frank Zappa’s band The Mothers of Invention. Little Feat have been an American staple since formation, and hugely popular today as they embark on their possible farewell tour. Sam Clayton on percussion and Kenny Gradney on bass have been in the band since the early 1970s. Fred Tacket on guitar has been in the band since the ’80s, and Scott Sharrard and Tony Leone have been in the band since 2020.

The current lineup plays an outstanding concert just like being back in the ’70s. At Roland E. Powell Convention Center, this show had two sets consisting of an electric set and then followed up with an initial acoustic second set that led into an electric finale. The 2.5 hours of music was stunning. The fans in the house this evening have been fans for decades, and it was easy to tell as you did not see many really young folks in the audience.

Little Feat began the first set with “Hate to Lose Your Lovin” from 1988’s album Let It Roll. The first few songs set the tone for the concert and showed Little Feat at their best. While talking and addressing the crowd on a few occasions, it was predominantly a night to showcase the dynamic workings of this band and to leave the fans wanting more which was the result of two great sets of music.

Watch Little Feat perform “Hat to Lose Your Lovin'” live at The Greek Theatre in Berkley, California, on YouTube:

After a great start the band played for about 30 more minutes of older and newer music, then delved into 1974s “The Fan” and “Spanish Moon” to finish the first set in fantastic form. The band announced they were breaking and would be back for a second set much to the delight of the audience.

The sold-out crowd of 1,200 people enjoyed a quick 20-minute intermission which was followed by an acoustic start for the second set, which further showed the band and their different musical styles. The band began the acoustic set with “Roll Um Easy” from 1973 and later in the set with a great version of “Willin” from 1971.

Several acoustic songs later the band evolved into a classic hard rock groove to end the fantastic night of rock music defining the sound with the Little Feat fast paced groove. The band ended with a classic version of “Dixie Chicken” from 1973 and with “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.”

Ending the show on a boogie classic was a defining moment of the evening and left the fans exceedingly pleased and dancing as the band finished the night of great music in Ocean City.

The band is seemingly a lot like the Grateful Dead in that they do play long songs, and they have a mixture of rock, blues, country, and folk, for example, and they can pretty much play anything.

Little Feat is currently on tour around the USA at this time, and they will be back in Maryland later in the year. If you haven’t seen the band play before this is a great chance to see them in great form doing their older classic and newer music, especially if they do retire the band after this tour.
