Playing at his largest DC venue yet, Dayglow recently “ran the world” at The Anthem with his dreamy indie-rock set. Having played the 9:30 Club twice in the past few years, Sloan Struble, professionally known as Dayglow, moved up to The Anthem for his DC stop on his latest tour, Dayglow the Tour.
Originally from Austin, Texas, Dayglow certainly carries his city’s sounds with him through his music. Although indie-rock, his music features some of the same sunny, feel good characteristics that can occasionally be found in country or folk music.
Dayglow first began making music before he even reached his teenage years, using Garage Band as an outlet for creative expression. In 2018, at just 19 years old, he release his debut album, Fuzzybrain, which blew up on social media platforms like TikTok and was featured in Spotify playlist, furthering his growing popularity. Fuzzybrain featured songs that are still on Spotify’s “Indie Pop Hits” and “Dopamine” public playlists, despite the album having celebrated its sixth birthday just last month. Since the release of his first album, Dayglow has gone on to release three additional albums, and a couple of singles along the way.
As for the concert itself, having seen Dayglow twice before, I knew I was in for a treat at The Anthem on Oct. 4. His high energy and sun-shiny spirit and music create beautiful energy, and it’s hard to be in anything but a good mood at his gigs. Sun Room opened the show with a similar sounding vibe, and their energy certainly woke the crowd up. With some of their most popular songs like “Sol Del Sur,” “Fun,” and “Sunset Garage,” they set a wonderful tone for Dayglow to follow.
One Sloane began his set, the energy in the room switched to one full of excitement and joy. While seamlessly matching the crowds bubbly energy, he managed to hit every note and deliver a beautiful performance. With both incredible vocal skills and talent on the guitar, Struble brought his music to life, as he always does.
