Masego played two sold-out shows recently at U Street Music Hall, and now you know why you saw massive lines streaming down U Street on Thursday. The Newport News native’s debut album, Lady Lady, was released in early September, and it is a blend of jazz, R&B, and EDM-trap music.
From the start of the show on Oct. 18, Masego showed off his saxophone skills, producing skills, and singing skills — all at once! The concert was a dance party from the start, and you couldn’t resist the sound from his saxophone. Singles like “Sunday Vibes” and “Girls That Dance” erupted with screams from everyone.

Throughout Masego’s set, songs like “Tadow” and “Prone”made the listener tune into dreamy and sultry beats. Going by his lyrics, Masego seems to be ladies man, and he not afraid to let a lady know. He let the ladies know that if he likes you, he likes you. And as he says in “Old Age,” “Age is nothing but a number.” Clearly, Masego knows what he wants from a lady.
Masego’s twist on music was pretty innovative with his neo-soul voice. He scat throughout while incorporating piano and saxophone within. It was very impressive to see someone unleashing such great talent and music. I can’t what else he releases in the future.
His current US tour continues through Nov. 18, ending in Los Angeles. Here are photos of Masego performing at U St Music Hall on Oct. 18, 2018. All photos copyright and courtesy of Brenda Reyes.
