Who doesn’t like to dance on a Friday night? Young the Giant showed up at The Anthem this past Friday and gave everyone a reason to dance all night. Shantel Breen went to take part in the fun.
The five-piece band from California rocked the stage at The Anthem, creating a full-on dance party and sing-a-long among their fans. Taking the stage in complete darkness, Young the Giant built the suspense, making the audience wait several seconds — which felt like eternity. Then the lights exploded, and dancing commenced with “Mirror Master,” from the band’s most recent release by the same name. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia engaged the crowd constantly, moving about the stage to interact with fans. The front row was busting at the seams with smiling faces and outstretched hands.

Young the Giant is touring in support of their latest album, Mirror Master, which was released on Oct. 12. The tour is running from October until the beginning of March, as the band makes its way to over 50 cities across the US and Canada. Their setlist for show at The Anthem included seven of the 12 tracks from Mirror Master and included many of the band’s past favorites as well. Young the Giant performed for nearly two hours and made sure to include “Cough Syrup” and “My Body,” the band’s most recognizable hits.

Lights provided the opened set for the evening. While touring with a full band, Lights is the sole creation of Canadian singer/songwriter Lights Poxleitner-Boken. Lights has been making music since 2006 and draws her audience in with her vivacious red hair and energy on stage. The highlight of her opening set included a fantastic cover of “Love Fool” by the Cardigans.
