Progressive music titans Dream Theater released Distance Over Time, the band’s 14th studio album, recently. But when the band arrived at Warner Theatre last week, the gents were there to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking record, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. Paivi Salonen was there to shoot the show.
After landing at the #1 spot on the iTunes Top Album Chart the day it was released, Distance Over Time went on to be an instant classic among fans and critics alike. The album landed at #5 on the Top Current Album Chart and debuted at #24 on the Billboard 200. It also found a home at #2 on the Hard Music Chart and #3 on the Rock Chart.
PopMatters declared, “While any other band’s 14th studio album might start to reveal fatigue, Dream Theater balances polish, consistency, musical excellence, and excitement on Distance Over Time.” At Warner Theatre on April 15, Dream Theater played four songs from the new record.
But they dedicated the lion’s share of the show to performing Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory in its entirety in recognition of the album’s 20th anniversary.
