Caribou soon releases Honey, his sixth studio album, on Oct. 4 via Merge Records. Meanwhile, Dan Snaith aka Caribou recently shared several singles in the build up to the album — including “Volume.” The single is based on M|A|R|R|S’ 1987 global hit “Pump Up the Volume,” a track forever cemented into the history of UK dance music.
Caribou launches a tour in support of Honey in October, and he lands at The Anthem for a show on Tuesday, Nov. 19. You can win tickets to see the show with Parklife DC!
Snaith explained more on the single and offers a peek behind the curtain on its creation:
“Pump Up the Volume” was the first time in my life I heard electronic music—sitting in front of the family stereo system listening to the Top 40 countdown on the radio when I was a kid. It completely blew my mind—it sounded like something from another world. It’s stuck with me ever since, and I always wanted to rework it in some way. I didn’t consciously think about it when I started working on my track, but I think there’s something really special about having gone right back to the very beginning in making this.
