When the world overwhelms with more grief and horror than anyone can handle and in a way that leaves most feeling helpless, there’s little that can provide comfort and spiritual reprieve in the way of live music in a gracious, communal setting.

At the tail end of one of the most horrific weeks the globe has collectively seen in some time, a large crowd of patrons gathered Oct. 13 in holy fashion at The Anthem in DC for what turned out to be a curative, heartrending night hosted by esteemed singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov.

Much history has been made, both good and bad, along the shores of the great St. Lawrence River, but few of those events has provided cause for continued celebration like the birth of Chromeo.

The electronic funk duo of David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel formed in the early 2000s after the two became friends as young musicians at a school upriver from Montreal — and together as Chromeo, they’ve now released five studio albums, fostering a large population of fans and earning a Grammy nomination along the way.

I had to pull out the FUBU jersey for The FORCE Tour

Each word in the tour’s name perfectly defined the essence of the show and what each artist contributed to the rap game.

The first word, “Force,” refers to an individual or group having the power of effective action. With all of the artists on this bill at Capital One Arena recently, one could not deny the force felt.

Black Thought effortlessly flow with that Philly swag, accompanied by Questlove playing the drums as if he can do this in his sleep his so sick with it.
