In April, The Damned released DARKADELIC, the famed punk rockers’ 12th studio album, via earMUSIC. Frontman Dave Vanian, guitarist Captain Sensible, and their bandmates have been touring the world, and now they have a date at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
The Damned came together in 1976, and they were the first UK punk band to release a single (“New Rose”) and album (Damned Damned Damned). The band have continued to innovate over their 47-year career, launching the look and sound of the Goth movement and scoring genre-bending UK chart singles such as “Love Song,” “Eloise,” and “Grimly Fiendish.”
Their first release on earMUSIC, the concert extravaganza “A Night of a Thousand Vampires,” hit No. 1 on the UK Music Film chart, proving them living legends with a huge following fueled by constant touring and ferocious live shows.
DARKADELIC catches the band once again evolving and expanding upon their unique universe and features some of The Damned’s sharpest song writing and genre-bending performances. Alongside Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Paul Gray, and Monty Oxymoron, William Granville-Taylor joins the band on drums.
The Damned released “Invisible Man” as the first single from DARKADELIC. Accompanied by a gloriously delirious video from director Martin Gooch, it swirls Captain Sensible’s trippy guitar swaths into David Vanian’s signature snarling baritone vocals in a tale of mystery and madness. It is one step beyond into a new Darkadelic universe as could only be conjured up by The Damned.

The Damned — the greatest surviving British punk band — are still firing on all cylinders and breaking all the rules. Where their peers either burnt out or faded away into mediocrity, this most spiritually chaotic of all punk groups have never been away, never surrendered their ideals, always forged onwards. Colourful, anarchic, yet propelled by an indefatigable creative motor, they’ve expanded their remit with every phase, to become one of the top-flight UK groups of ANY pop era.
