Mammoth Burns Bright at The Fillmore Silver Spring

The Fillmore Silver Spring was already humming before Mammoth even stepped onstage. It was a chilly Tuesday night, but inside the venue, it felt electric. Fans packed tight against the barricade, a mix of longtime Wolfgang followers, younger rock fans and seasoned old timers drawn in by the sheer noise of it all.
Bktherula brought The Lucy Experience East Coast Tour to The Fillmore Silver Spring on Nov. 8, turning the 2,000-cap room into something closer to a fever-dream house party than a conventional rap show.

The North Mississippi Allstars recently transformed The Barns at Wolf Trap into a Southern soul sanctuary — part juke joint, part gospel revival, and wholly alive. Touring in support of their latest album, Still Shakin’ (released June 6 via New West Records), the band rolled into Vienna, Virginia, with the easy confidence of road-tested veterans on their aptly titled Still Shakin’ Tour.
Lera Lynn has been making ethereal, noir-tinged music for a decade and a half. She got her breakthrough when she was cast in the second season of True Detective, working on music for the series with T Bone Burnett and Rosanne Cash. In her recent performance at Pearl Street Warehouse, Lynn showed how she’s she evolved as an artist, while maintaining the core elements of her appeal.
GRAMMY-nominated, Australian electronic icons Cut Copy released their seventh studio album, Moments, in September via Cutters Records / The Orchard.
The band are now on a North American tour that lands at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

“Fine as a Beeswing”: An Evening with Richard Thompson at St. John’s College

It’s a Sunday night, and the Francis Scott Key Auditorium at St. John’s College in Annapolis is full of the soft creaking of leather jackets, a faint odor of patchouli and sandalwood, and…greying hair? It’s not the usual crowd of students that fills the midcentury era auditorium but instead a nearly sold-out crowd of older folk-heads and music lovers — some having traveled from as far as Chicago — to see folk-rock legend Richard Thompson perform.
Thompson, one of the founding members of Fairport Convention, part of a duo with his then-wife Linda Thompson, and now enjoying a successful solo career, performed this show as part of his An Evening with Richard Thompson Tour, presented by local music venue Rams Head on Stage.
In March, The Faint issued deluxe editions of their ground-breaking dance albums Blank-Wave Arcade (1999) and Wet from Birth (2004) via Saddle Creek! Around the same time, The Faint performed some concerts on a West coast tour.
Now, The Faint return to the East Coast with some fall dates that include a show at 9:30 Club on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Hercules and Love Affair open!

In a world focused on streaming numbers and social media engagement, Margaret Glapsy is a rare gem: She’s an outrageously talented singer-songwriter held in high esteem by critics and her peers. She’s shared stages with many of my favorite bands and artists: Wilco, the Mountain Goats, the New Pornographers, and Neko Case.
Recently, Margaret recorded a live session for No Depression, at Lucinda’s, a country bar in New York City owned by Lucinda Williams, whose “Fruits of My Labor” she covered on her latest LP, The Golden Heart Protector, and which has been a staple of her live sets for years. In December, she’ll be appearing at Steve Earle’s annual benefit for the Keswell School, which serves kids and young adults on the autism spectrum, that his son John Henry attends.
Her appearance in an early show at the Pearl Street Warehouse showed off her sharp lyrics, incredible voice, and outstanding musicianship.
Jon Batiste turned The Anthem into a Halloween-night jubilee on Oct. 31, riding the Big Money Tour from sanctified clap-alongs to New Orleans strut.
