All Things Go celebrated 10 years of musical festivals with two days of tremendous concert performances at Merriweather Post Pavilion in the DC edition of its indie pop extravaganza on Sept. 28-29.

Parklife has been covering the ATG Music Festival since its early days as the Fall Classic, and we were pleased this year to send the fabulous photographer Micaela Cerball, who shot many of the acts on the lineup, including all six headlining artists: Laufey, Bleachers, Janelle Monae, Hozier, Renee Ramp, and Conan Grey!

You might not think of Ohio as a hotbed of country music, but there’s a saying that there are more hillbillies in Ohio than people in West Virginia. I wouldn’t call Kim Richey a hillbilly, though; her take on country music leans toward the progressive and Americana end of the genre.

But Kim is as native of Ohio, as is Aaron Lee Tasjan, who accompanied her on electric guitar and backing vocals during her recent performance at Jammin’ Java, and together the duo made some fine country music.

Oklahoma native JD McPherson takes his musical cues from an earlier era: classic rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, and — with his latest album, this year’s Nite Owls — ’60s surf music.

These influences were clear in both his originals and the covers he played during his recent appearance at The Atlantis.

My Morning Jacket’s recent show at Merriweather Poast Pavilion was the third time I’ve covered the band for this here blog and to be completely honest, I’m not sure I have much more to add from my earlier reviews. But I will say this: I absolutely love seeing this band play live.

There is just something about their shows, whether it’s the monstrous riffs or the bouncy grooves they create, that gives off amazing vibes and makes me incredibly happy. It was a damp and humid night in Columbia, but no one seemed to notice or even care.

Vampire Weekend are back on roll, having released their fifth full-length, Only God Was Above Us, earlier in the year.  They’ve embarked on a massive world tour now that covers (literally, but I’ll get into that in a moment) a little bit of everything… and beyond.

The band recently kicked off the first of two nights at The Anthem, and it was a fun ride.
