Judge Reinhold Discusses the Music of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Beverly Hills Cop (And Appearing in a Pat Benatar Video!)

In June, Judge Reinhold was slated to appear in DC to host a screening of Fast Times at Ridgemont High at the Warner Theatre. That screening was unfortunately canceled. But in the days prior to the screening date, the Fast Times star chatted with Parklife DC’s Mickey McCarter about the event.

In Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Judge Reinhold famously portrays Brad Hamilton, a decent chap who cannot catch a break. Brad’s travails often are cleverly elevated through the music of the film. Fast Times at Ridgemont High has a legendary soundtrack, and it seemed like a great opportunity to chat with Judge about the film and its music.

Read on as Judge Reinhold reveals the story of the Fast Times soundtrack coming together, his thoughts on music in Beverly Hills Cop, and a tale of appearing in a Pat Benatar video!

Oh, we should mention that Judge Reinhold stars in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (aka Beverly Hills Cop 4), dropping on Netflix on July 3.

Mdou Moctar is a Tuareg musician from Niger. His story is as amazing as it is improbable. And it recently led him and his band to Washington DC’s 9:30 Club.

Mdou and his band are on tour supporting Funeral For Justice, the guitarist’s most recent album (published in May via Matador Records).

There were no actual turtles or graves at the recent double bill of Trampled by Turtles and Shakey Graves at The Anthem. What there was was nearly three hours of the best folk-Americana music to hit DC this summer.

Trampled by Turtles, who have one of the truly great band names, got the evening started with “We All Get Lonely.” Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota — the birthplace of a certain very important and influential songwriter — the progressive bluegrass band was originally formed as a side project by frontman Dave Simonett. Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention: Most of Simonett’s equipment had been stolen by car thieves, leaving him with just an acoustic guitar. With no previous experience playing bluegrass, he set about forming a band  with other novices who played in metal and jam bands.

On a hot Thursday in June, fans of all ages packed The Fillmore Silver Spring to see one of the most electrifying artists of our time, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. The audience ranged from pre-teens to seniors. Some were loyal followers of Kingfish, and some were first timers like myself, but I’d bet the cost of admission we all left overflowing with musical satisfaction.
