Avery Anna has all the qualities to be the next superstar out of Nashville, as she in her recent stellar show at the world-famous 9:30 Club. Anna arrived in Washington, DC in support of her latest album, Let Go Letters, and put on a superb show for the very supportive audience.

The 9:30 Club was filled with fans of all ages for the show, which also featured two openers Dylan Davidson and Jenna Raine.

Davidson opened the night’s performances and played about 20 minutes of very good songs before departing for the evening. Davidson was openly very happy to be in DC and described the long train ride from New York City that day to get to DC for the show that evening. Raine took the stage and played about a 45-minute set of non-stop dancing with a lot of energy. Raine is very charismatic and talkative, emitting a very fun attitude during her set. (Raine is also a good friend of Anna.)

At 9:30 Club on Dec. 11, Anna opened her set with a very energized “Mr. Predictable” and “Blame it On My Broken Heart.” Anna’s inspirational vocal abilities and songwriting were noticeable immediately — as well as her captivating stage presence! Anna’s songs are very personal and portray a bit of melancholy but are very smooth with great harmonies. She has the ability to transition from a country feel to a rock-pop feel with ease. Her sound is very distinctive with a slow, country atmosphere with intelligent songwriting. While exuding a very outgoing persona, Anna also was sensitive and seemingly shy to some degree, which helped her build a rapport with her audience. She has this modern country style but can easily switch back to a more traditional Patsy Cline feel as she does on the song “it’s just rainin’,” which I feel displayed her voice at its most beautiful.

Almost midway through the show, Anna played a great cover of Ozzy Ozbourne’s “No More Tears,” which showed her rocking ability much to the audience’s delight. But Anna hit her stride during the song “Vanilla”, a number about a girl’s right to set her own pace and decision-making in relationships. This song was a great example of Anna’s songwriting ability and being able to write about delicate subjects with a very distinctive feel and intelligent insight.

“Make It Look Easy” and “Narcissist” later in the show were further examples of great songs by Anna before she closed out the concert with a great version of “Indigo,” a song Anna recorded with Sam Barber. The night ended on a very high note, leaving all in attendance feeling more inspired for attending the show. Avery Anna was in great form — and she will only get better and better with time. Her ability to write songs appears to be a key for her future success with such heartfelt lyrics that ensnared fans.
