Around Town: DC Closes Nightclubs Indefinitely to Fight Coronavirus

Prior the declaration of a national emergency on March 13, DC’s IMP concert venues, including 9:30 Club and The Anthem, declared they would voluntarily close down through March 31 as part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

But a clarified order issued by DC’s mayor on Sunday shut both venues indefinitely all the same.

Preview: Dead Kennedys @ 9:30 Club, 3/11/20

The Dead Kennedys, one of the most infamous punk bands of all time, celebrated their 40th anniversary last year with the release of a limited edition box set last year, published via Manifesto Records.

To further celebrate 40 years, the punk legends perform at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, March 11.

You might expect that Drive-By Truckers frontment Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, who are known for taking outspoken, forceful positions, would have a lot to say on stage. But on their first of two nights playing the 9:30 Club Friday, they mostly let their songs — 30 of them, a two-and-a-half-hour set — do the talking.

Progressive bluegrass band The Lil Smokies released of their third studio album, Tornillo, last month. Recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, with producer-engineer Bill Reynolds (The Avett Brothers, Band of Horses, Midland) Tornillo is a focused and refined representation of the sound The Lil Smokies have become known for, Live For Live Music deeming the release “…an album with a point to make.”
