Iconic rock musicians Jeff Beck and Paul Rodgers are currently on their joint “Stars Align Tour,” but on Monday, Aug. 20, Jeff will step away for a solo show at Wolf Trap! Ann Wilson of Heart, who is opening the Stars Align Tour, will join Jeff for this special concert.

The magpie is a type of bird that is a member of the crow family. So it is not a stretch that multiple former members of The Black Crowes decided to reform under a new moniker as The Magpie Salute. Led by Rich Robinson, The Magpie Salute performed at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Sunday, and we got some pictures of the show.

Outlaw country musician Ray Wylie Hubbard delivered an evening of great music and stories to a full house at DC’s City Winery on Saturday. “I was not expecting this,” the Oklahoma-born, Texas-based singer-songwriter told the crowd, seeming genuinely pleased at the turnout. Playing mostly crowd-pleasing favorites spiced up with delightful stories and anecdotes from a life on the road, Ray had the crowd at rapt attention.

The energy was high upon entering the 9:30 Club on Friday night. Fans lined up for hours in advance of the 8pm doors to ensure a spot along the barrier at the front of the general admission crowd for an up-close view of Greta Van Fleet, a band who has not yet released a full-length album.

Lookman Adekunle Salami, better known as LA Salami, will release his full-length sophomore album, The City of Bootmakers, through Sunday Best Recordings on April 13. The week prior, he will perform at DC9 on Tuesday, April 7.

If you are a fan of the Black Crowes, the Magpie Salute put on the show for you, as they demonstrated in a recent visit to The Fillmore Silver Spring on Aug. 12. Indeed, the Magpie Salute’s setlist consisted mainly of Black Crowes covers with a few other songs sprinkled into it.

As soon as I walked into Warner Theatre on Saturday, it was clear that Gov’t Mule has a very passionate following. It’s no surprise, considering they have been around since 1994 and were formed as a side project from The Allman Brothers. It was also clear that there is a pretty specific audience that this music appeals to.

Gov’t Mule will release their 10th studio album, Revolution Come… Revolution Go, on June 9 via Fantasy Records. Prior to that, they will make a tour stop at Warner Theatre on Saturday, May 20!

Steve Gunn came to DC with Lee Renaldo on Friday mostly to mourn the results of the election. He began his set with “Old Strange,” a song from his 2013 album Time Off, which was about the surprise death of a friend.
