When I was asked to write a piece about my 10 favorite photos from the past year, initially I was very excited to do it. It seemed like an enjoyable way to recap what has been an exciting year of concert coverage. I joined Parklife DC in March, but as of this writing, I have been fortunate to have covered 21 shows, and I produced a total of 28 reviews. The concert started with a giant explosion, but it would be far from the only startling moment of the night. On a co-headlining tour with Godsmack, Shinedown put forth everything one would hope from an arena ready rock band at Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday — extreme energy, pyrotechnics and lasers, eardrum-blasting musicianship, and soaring vocals that touch everyone from the front of the pit to the back of the lawn.
The deep drumming that opens the title track and first song on the new album, When Legends Rise, immediately fills you with the sense of impending doom, as many Godsmack songs tend to do. This made for the perfect opening song for Godsmack’s performance at Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday. A quick transition into a heavy guitar riff, and 15 seconds into the night, there is no doubt that Godsmack has put forth another powerful, rib-crushing album.
Godsmack released When Legends Rise, the band’s seventh studio album, on April 27 via BMG. The metal quartet have teamed with fellow rockers Shinedown for a joint tour that visits Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday, Aug. 19.
Imagine Dragons released a new single, “Next to Me,” via KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records earlier this year, and then embarked on a summer tour celebrating their last album, Evolve, released in 2017. The Evolve Tour landed at Jiffy Lube Live on Monday, July 2, and Nathan Payne snapped some pictures!
