For the band’s final performance of 2019, prog-metal icons Tool brought the Fear Inoculum Tour to Capitol One Arena recently. Known for putting on one of the best concert performances across all genres of music, Maynard James Keenan and company did not disappoint. A light- and laser-filled spectacle, a Tool show is a two-hour long sensory overload.

Not long ago, frontman Maynard James Keenan reunited his progressive metal bandmates in Tool for a fifth album, titled Fear Inoculum, and now the quartet are conquering stadiums across the country. Tool performs at Capital One Arena in DC on Monday, Nov. 25.

Hailing from the depths of Phoenix, Arizona, Spirit Adrift are making their way through the United States with High Command and Haunt. I caught them recently at their DC date, held at Songbyrd Music House, a venue that is part record store, part concert hall.

Eric Whitney, better known as Ghostemane, released N/O/I/S/E, a full-length album influenced by acts like Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. He followed that up with an EP, Opium, this year, and now he performs at U Street Music Hall on Wednesday, June 19.

Deicide was on this year’s Maryland Deathfest lineup, and I was there taking some photos. The band performed as one of the most anticipated headlining acts recently at Ram Heads Live!

Thrash metal gods Slayer are saying goodbye with a farewell tour, and fans in the DC area can see the band one last time — on Tuesday, May 14, at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
