Like myself, you might not know much about Diner En Blanc other than the vague notion that everyone wears white and goes for dinner in a park somewhere. Last weekend, I saw firsthand that it’s much more — it’s actually a full-blown party held in a unique location, which turned out to be Nationals Park in our case.

Around Town: DC Beer Festival @ Nationals Park, 11/5/16

DC Beer Festival 2016

It’s time to get excited about another beer festival! The DC Beer Festival returns to Nationals Park on Saturday, November 5th and you should be there.

This year’s festival will feature 75 breweries and over 200 beers (probably enough options for you?), and you can choose between two three-hour sessions (12-3pm or 5-8pm).

Get your tickets here.

Some of the local DC/MD/VA breweries I’ll be seeking to try for the first time include, 7 Locks Brewing (Maryland), Tall Tales Brewery (Maryland), Wild Wolf Brewing (Virginia), Ruhlman Brewery (Maryland) and Old Bust Head Brewing (Virginia).

This festival will have a lot of local breweries plying their brews, the most they’ve ever had, including some of our favorite DC standbys like 3 Stars Brewing, Atlas Brew Works, Right Proper and Hellbender Brewery.

From the limited list of beers on tap released so far, I’m looking at Ruhlman’s Holiday Brew, Stone’s Encore 6th Anniversary Porter and 3 Stars’ Nectar of the Bogs to definitely pour down my gullet.

Food options include food trucks like Urban Poutine, Peruvian Brothers, Red Hook Lobster Pound, PhoWheels, Rio Churrasco, Balkanik Taste and more. There will also be games, DJs and you get to hang out in Nationals Park.

Get your tickets before they sell out!

Sports Park: The Nationals’ Playoffs vs. the Dodgers, 10/7 & 10/8/16

Trea TurnerTrea Turner can hit! (Photo Credit: Keith Allison)

Your Washington Nationals are in the Big Dance! The Major League Baseball playoffs got underway on Tuesday, October 4th with the Toronto Blue Jays beating the Baltimore Orioles (sorry, no bird puns today).

Now it’s time for the Nationals to show us what they’re made of, as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, October 7th for Game 1 of the NL Division Series.

After six months of consistently good baseball, and a NL East Division crown, your Nationals are poised to actually do more good things in the post-season. They excelled despite a down year for Bryce Harper (.243 BA and 24 HRs after hitting .330/40 HRs in his MVP 2015 season) and late season injuries to Stephen Strasburg.

The stories of contributors are many, but Daniel Murphy (2B) put up a MVP-like season (.347 BA and 104 RBIs). Trea Turner (OF) came in and dominated at the plate the second half of the season (he helped me win my fantasy league…). While Max Scherzer could be the favorite to win another Cy Young Award with his 20-7 record, 2.96 ERA and 284 SOs.

Go Nats!

Division Series Schedule
