Irish singer James Vincent McMorrow seems to have a taste for beauty in unconventional spaces.
At least judging from the video for his latest single, “Rising Water,” where the camera explores intimacy in cramped alleyways and stodgy flats, only to release the participants in those encounters onto a scenic beach that (while scenic) seems unerringly real.
Well, the former folk rocker, now turned alternative R&B crooner, has released his third album, We Move, via Mahogany Books/Burning Rope in the United States as of September, and the whole thing seems very much about transporting oneself. Press releases for the album We Move suggest James was inspired by his own movements between Los Angeles, Toronto, and Dublin while recording the album. He’s on the move now with a tour, and he stops in DC to perform at the 9:30 Club on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
