From 2012-14, superhero comedy rock band The Aquabats were busy fighting evil on television with the Aquabats! Super Show! Once they wrapped the show, they took the time to enjoy a 20th anniversary tour in 2014. Now, MC Bat Commander and crew return with a new single “Dr. Space Mummy,” coming soon via Fearless Records, and a tour that lands at The Fillmore Silver Spring this Friday, July 21.

The MC Bat Commander and bassist Crash McLarson, along with keyboardist Jimmy the Robot, drummer Ricky Fitness, and guitarist Eagle “Bones” Falconhawk, return with their first new material on the horizon since 2011’s Hi-Five Soup!

Days weren’t always bright for The Aquabats, but they have been on a creative streak since their fourth studio album Charge!! and its lead single “Fashion Zombies,” which introduced the band to new audiences and sparked the activities that would lead them to television.

Watch “Fashion Zombies” by The Aquabats on YouTube:

Said Johnny Loftus of the music of The Aquabats for AllMusic, “It doesn’t loiter awkwardly between punk, pop, ska, and broad humor — it keeps the pressure on with a catchy guitar- and keyboard-driven blend of anthemic choruses and appropriately squawky elements.”

Be sure to arrive early to check out Reggie and the Full Effect. (See our Parklife DC preview of Reggie and the Full Effect.)

Buy your tickets online. Oh — and you can also upgrade to the Aquabats Super Rad Package!, which includes a bunch of goodies and early admission for a meet and greet with the superhero rockers during soundcheck. How cool is that?
