Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles released a collaborative instrumental album, Heart Songs, via CGP Sounds/Thirty Tigers on Jan. 11! The duo has hit the road to bring their music to The Birchmere together for two dates on Tuesday, Jan. 22 and Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The world-famous guitarists reveal their talents on the full-length album with a series of instrumental covers, featuring special arrangements of songs like “Cold, Cold Heart” by Hank Williams, “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees, “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” by Billy Joel, and “I Can Let Go Now” by Michael McDonald, among other tunes.

Watch Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles cover “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees live on YouTube:

“A ‘heart song’ is really a love song,” Tommy said. “Love has many facets — love of family, romantic love. So we started there and then looked for melodies that could be played with heart.”

John added, “And we tried to choose songs that people have heard. So that when they hear them, even though we’re not singing or they may not know all the words, they have a connection to these songs in their own hearts.”

Of course, Tommy and John are two of the men their mentor Chet Atkins designated as “certified guitar pickers” or CGPs prior to his death. So this is a rare opportunity to see two such guitar greats together.
