Boston rockers Guster perform at 9:30 Club on two nights, on the heels of releasing eighth studio album Look Alive. The second of those two nights is sold out, but you can still buy tickets for Guster at 9:30 Club on Friday, Jan. 25.
Guster drops look alive this Friday via Nettwerk/Ocho Mule, and the band rolls into town a week later. With the record, Adam Gardner, Ryan Miller, Luke Reynolds, and Brian Rosenworcel have created “the most layered, moody and brilliantly unpredictable music of their storied career,” according to a press release.
On the new album, Guster embraced synthesizers, particularly one they found in the recording studio in Calgary, Canada.
“Despite having access to room after room of well-maintained analog keys, Leo gravitated to a cheap Ensoniq Mirage synth from the 1980s,” Brian said. “It was the beginning of a stylistic clash that played out beautifully.”

With “Hard Times,” Guster seeks to channel the dark pop of Peter Gabriel and Tears for Fears. “This song, if nothing else, wears its heart on its sleeve,” said frontman Ryan.
