In February, folk trio Mountain Man released a new digital single, covering John Denver! “We love John Denver so much we gave Alex his haircut, and recorded a few of his legendary tunes too,” the band says. Perhaps they will play the songs, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Around and Around,” in their appearance at The Barns at Wolf Trap on Friday, March 29.
In 2018, after an eight-year absence, Amelia Meath, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, and Molly Sarlé reunited for Mountain Man’s second album, Magic Ship which included 11 original songs and several covers.
“There’s also a precision to these songs — both in harmony and duration — that lend them a sense of purpose,” NPR said of the record. “Magic Ship is most potent when heard in full, from beginning to end, ideally on a back porch or around a smoldering campfire.”
Watch Mountain Man perform a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music on Feb. 13, playing “Rang Tang Ring Toon,” “Moon,” and “Stella,” on YouTube:
“Mountain Man is not only stronger than ever, but they achieve it through songs that are striking in their softness,” Allison Hussey said for a review in Indy Week. “Throughout the record, finely attuned listening yields the greatest rewards. The singers unite in ringing harmony, but individually, their voices are equally remarkable. The trifecta of talent makes for inimitable rapport.”
