Last year, The Distillers, the infamous Los Angeles punk rock group reformed for a tour. The quartet released “Man vs. Magnet,” their first song in 15 years, last September via Third Man Records. Now The Distillers perform at 9:30 Club on Friday, May 31.
Guitarist Brody Dalle, bassist Ryan Sinn, drummer Andy Granelli, and guitarist Tony Bradley confirmed they have been recording their fourth studio album, which will be their first since 2003’s Coral Fang.
Originally formed in 1998 in Los Angeles, The Distillers released a barrage of music with California punk labels Epitaph and Hellcat, then released their third masterpiece of an album, Coral Fang, on Sire before going on hiatus and ultimately splitting in 2006. After breaking a 12-year silence on social media late last year, The Distillers released “Man vs. Magnet” and its B-side, “Blood in Gutters.”
Watch the official music video for “Man vs. Magnet” by The Distillers on YouTube:
“‘Man vs. Magnet’ seems to pick up where 2003’s Coral Fang left off, with The Distillers’ rough edges buffed with a sparkling sheen. The ringing guitar textures and pounding rhythm section sound like White Lung’s own experiments with the same sonic dichotomy but powered by Dalle’s voice,” said Lars Gotrich for NPR Music.
