Visiting DC recently, a cello rock band covered 18 Metallica songs at Lincoln Theatre. Yes, Apocalyptica returned on its Apocalyptica Plays Metallica by Four Cellos Tour, and Paivi was there to shoot the show.
Continuing the celebration of the band’s 1996 album of covers, Apocalyptica last year released a live version the record. On May 28, the Finnish band actually played those songs live to an eager audience just as willing to sit and listen to innovative cello in a majestic concert hall as they apparently would be to bang their heads in a colossal arena.

Eicca Toppinen and company opened their show with a cover of “Enter Sandman” by Metallica and continued to play Metallica songs, except on cellos, for the rest of the evening. Other highlights included “Master of Puppets” and “The Unforgiven,” along with “Nothing Else Matters,” which appeared in the encore.
Apocalyptica’s current USA tour closes tonight, May 31, in Connecticut. For more information on Apocalyptica, visit the band’s website.
