Khalid recently performed the final concert of the Apple’s concert summer series, Up Next Live, at the newly renovated Carnegie Library in Mount Vernon Square. The location is the first public library in DC and also the first library in DC to desegregate in 1969. The location also now serves as the the second Apple store in our city.
Up Next Live is a series of intimate performances from past and present Apple Music featured artists including Bad Bunny, Daniel Caesar, and King Princess. Apple stores hosted free concerts across the world throughout July and August.
On Aug. 24, the stage was set up on the steps of the library with Khalid’s band ready to perform. The event began with an appearance by Beats 1 DJ Ebro Darden, thanking everyone for coming to this special event and introducing Khalid to the stage. He also mentioned that this concert was to be recorded live and turned into a live album available on Apple Music.
Khalid took the stage quite comfortably, and he was so excited to see everyone come out for the event. Khalid was last in the city for the middle of his Free Spirit World Tour, stopping in DC about three weeks ago, blocks away from the Carnegie Library. At the library, he played for about an hour, highlighting acoustic arrangements of songs such as “Angels,” “Paradise,” and “Location.”

Also singing favorites like”Young, Dumb, and Broke” and the summer jam “Talk,” Khalid bounced from one end of the stage to the other, making sure that every single person was there in the moment. Everyone hyped him up for his mini-dance breaks!
Something about Khalid’s voice engulfs the listener and places you into a state of relaxation. The show was the perfect choice and perfect night for Khalid and Apple: Up Next Live. It goes to show that summer may be ending soon, but we still have music to remind us that summer doesn’t necessarily have to be gone forever.
