Ambient quartet Cigarettes After Sex recently performed at 9:30 Club on the very day the band released Cry, their second studio album. Paivi Salonen was there to take photos of all of the slow jams.
Led by frontman Greg Gonzalez, Cigarettes After Sex includes Randall Miller (bass), Jacob Tomsky (drums), and Josh Marcus (keyboards). After releasing their debut album, the band traveled to Mallorca to record Cry.
“The sound of this record is completely tied to the location for me,” Greg said in a press release. “Ultimately, I view this record as a film. It was shot in this stunning, exotic location, and it stitches all these different characters and scenes together, but in the end is really about romance, beauty and sexuality. It’s a very personal telling of what those things mean to me.”
Cigarettes After Sex largely improvised the new album in the studio.
