Last fall, NYC noise poppers Sleigh Bells released Texis, the band’s fifth studio album, via Mom + Pop. They set about touring it in the past year, and they recently visited 9:30 Club with opening act N3ptune. Katherine Gaines was there to photograph the show!
Alexis Krauss and Derek E. Miller released Texis as the follow-up to their last full-length album, Jessica Rabbit in 2016, and a successive EP, Kid Kruschev in 2017. The band appeared at 9:30 Club on Aug. 23 in support of the new album.
Miller teamed with Nina Ljeti to co-direct a video for “Locust Laced” from the new album. “We stopped worrying about whether or not we’re in or out of our comfort zone, or if we were being repetitive or formulaic,” Derek said in a press release.
“The thing I’m most attracted to is the juxtaposition of happy and sad, melancholy and hope. A lot of this is about trying to hold on to a shred of optimism through sheer force of will, and I hope this music can give people some joyful energy and confidence,” he added.

Our blogger Katherine Gaines hailed the performance of Denver-based pop artist N3ptune, who opened the show at 9:30 Club. “N3ptune really impressed me, and he won over the whole crowd by the end of his set.” He demonstrated an “incredible voice” that gave life to “great songs.”
