The Baltimore-Washington metro area affords many privileges for the frequent concert goer. One is witnessing bands on the rise graduate from the smaller venues of the region to play one of the most popular of them of all: 9:30 Club in Washington DC.
flipturn has been packing joints and blowing the roof off them since the indie rock quintet formed in 2015, and though it’s released only one full album in the form of 2022’s Shadowglow, the Fernandina Beach-bord group is riding tremendous momentum as a result of thrilling live performances and visionary songwriting.

A special occasion for flipturn and its followers, April 18 was the first of two nights at the storied V Street space, and emotions were let loose across an energized set that showcased this squad’s punch and prowess as entertainers.
“We’re at the fucking 9:30 Club,” spirited lead singer Dillon Basse realized before the audience that night.
Along with Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), Madeline Jarman (bass), Devon VonBalson (drums), and Mitch Fountain (synthesizer and guitar), flipturn has become an instant hit at every festival and in every town it visits, and that’s included stops at places like Black Cat in DC and The 8×10 in Baltimore.
But last week, before a wildly enthusiastic heard of supporters — some shedding tears at the very sight of the band — flipturn proved its merit as a must-see touring act in a monumental location, serving up a dazzling, invigorative set of music.
