In 2022, Buddy released The Blues Don’t Lie, his most recent album. The then embarked on the 2023 Damn Right Farewell Tour, which saw the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award winner perform hits from throughout his career.
The Blues Don’t Lie was Buddy Guy’s follow up to his 2018 Billboard No. 1 Blues Album Chart lead The Blues Is Alive and Well, which debuted at No. 1, making it his 13th Top 10 Billboard Blues album. Always a welcomed return to music, he won Best Blues Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. This all followed his 2015 album Born To Play Guitar, which also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Album charts and won “Best Blues Album” at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
At Wolf Trap on June 21, Buddy Guy opened his show with the title track to his 1991 album, Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues.

Buddy closed his Wolf Trap show with a big medley of cover tunes that included “Outskirts of Town” by Sawyer Brown, “Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream, and “I’ve Got My Mojo Working” by Muddy Waters. For this medley, Buddy was joined by his openers! Judith Hill accompanied him on vocals and Christine “Kingfish” Ingram played guitar.
Buddy Guy will release a new album, Ain’t Done with the Blues, on July 30.
Of the new album, Buddy said, “This album is about where I’ve been, it’s about where I’m going, and the people I learned everything from… Muddy, Wolf, Walter, Sonny Boy, BB, I could go on and on. Before they passed, they used to say, ‘Man, if you outlive me, just keep the Blues alive,’ and I’m trying to keep that promise.”
