Reggae legends UB40 arrive at the 9:30 Club on Tuesday, August 13, for a date on their Red Red Wine Tour!
The Red Red Wine Tour features five of UB40’s six founding members: Robin Campbell, Brian Travers, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer, and Norman Hassan — along with long-time members Duncan Campbell, Martin Meredith, Lawrence Parry, and Tony Mullings.
Of the show, the band’s Robin Campbell said, “We’re excited to get back to the States again for our third year in a row, as we love coming to America. We can’t wait to play songs from our new album that we’re so very proud of, showcasing Matt Doyle’s vocals on the tracks. He’s brought a new lease of life to our music, as has the addition of our ‘permanent guest’ MC Gilly G and my son on backing vocals, Matt Campbell, carrying on the legacy. When you play songs over so many years, the arrangements and vocals evolve and change. These updated versions of our hits are still close to the originals, but now reflect how we perform them today and they sound better than ever.”
By bringing a unique fusion of reggae, pop, and socially conscious lyrics they set themselves apart in the vibrant music scene of the 1980s. They quickly gained international acclaim with their debut album, Signing Off, in 1980. The album’s success propelled them into the limelight, establishing UB40 as pioneers of the reggae-pop genre.

Formed in Birmingham, England in 1978 by a group of young friends, they transcended their working-class origins to become the world’s most successful reggae band. They sold over 100 million records and spent over a combined 11 years in the UK album charts. The band’s name pays homage to the UK government’s unemployment benefit form 40, reflecting their socially conscious roots and commitment to addressing societal issues through their music.
