“There are no strangers here, only friends who have not yet met.” — William Butler Yeats.
That quote from Yeats opened the program for the 2019 Appaloosa Festival, which invited friends of all stripes to Skyline Ranch Resort in Front Royal, Virginia, over Labor Day weekend for a gathering of bluegrass, folk, Americana, Celtic rock, and more! Parklife DC’s Chester Simpson captured the action on film.
Roughly 6,000 music lovers attended the fifth annual Appaloosa Festival on Aug. 30-Sept. 1. The festival featured 33 bands over three days. The 2018 edition of the festival won Best DC Music Festival in Parklife DC’s Thrushie Awards reader’s poll. And it’s easy to understand why when chatting with Dan Fedoryka of Scythian, the Celtic rock and bluegrass band that hosts the festival.

Headliners for the 2019 Appaloosa Festival included Steep Canyon Rangers, Aztec Sun, and Dustbowl Revival. Chester filmed a bit of Steep Canyon Rangers performing on Sept. 1.
