“This tour will be a chance for a generation of fans — both old and new — to step back into the future and celebrate a time that defined millions of people’s life soundtracks when the era of Music Television ruled the earth,” Peters declared.

Parklife is gobsmacked that this amazing tour comes to the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia, on Saturday, May 18.

With every appearance he makes on the stage, Del McCoury continues to add to a legacy that will live on as long as people celebrate bluegrass and all that extends from it.

And rather than just partake in it as a revered player and accomplished veteran now approaching his 85th birthday, Del is merrily presiding over the colorful progression of this music form while performing in the embrace of talented close friends and family members who’ve been his bandmates for decades.

Have you ever heard a song before it was recorded, and then been disappointed by the recorded version? Whether it’s a song by someone you’ve heard develop over time, or a song that you’ve only heard performed live or acoustically, that then gets “produced” into something completely lifeless in the studio?

Daphne Eckman just released her first studio album, Where You Left Me, and I’ve been looking forward to it, but also dreading it. I’ve heard these beautiful, personal songs many times over the last few years — mostly performed solo by Daphne on an acoustic guitar, but occasionally with other support. These are delicate, soul-wrenching songs that could easily be ruined by the wrong production choices. When the album was finally released recently, I was blown away.

Guitar virtuoso and composer William Tyler plays at DC’s Songbyrd Music House on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

A native of Nashville, Tyler played and recorded with acts ranging from alt-country icons like Silver Jews, Lambchop, and Bonnie Prince Billy to soul singer Candi Staton and Charlie Louvin before putting out his own music. His own work ranges from experimental American primitive music to pastoral country-folk. He also created the well-received score for the film First Cow.

Few bands have so exceptional a debut album as Ride, four men hailing from Oxford, England, and their 1990 studio record, Nowhere. The album turned 30 years old back in 2020, but of course no bands were touring during pandemic lockdowns. After some successful shows that took the album on the road, Ride returned to US shores this year on a second leg of a celebratory lap to present the album in full.

In the DC area, Ride performed at The Fillmore Silver Spring in their co-headlining tour with The Charlatans, an excellent pairing that filled the room to the brim.

In 1992, The Charlatans released their sophomore album, Between 10th and 11th. Frontman Tim Burgess and company recently embarked on the second leg of a USA tour to celebrate the record in a co-headlining tour with shoegazers Ride on their shared Between Nowhere Tour.

The Charlatans recently kicked off the tour’s DC-area date at The Fillmore Silver Spring with a signature high-energy performance led by Tim’s sunny disposition and the band’s good-natured charm.

Every so often, I get to live out my middle school concert dreams, and this was one of those shows. Having been a long time fan of We the Kings and Story of the Year, covering their recent performance at Rams Head Live was a privilege that I won’t soon take for granted. It was my first time at Rams Head, a smaller more intimate venue with a wrap-around upper balcony for those who didn’t want to be part of the inevitable pit downstairs, and that ensured that no matter where you were in the venue you had premium seating to watch the show from.

Jessie’s Girl, a collective of seven artists in a New York City-covered band, recently buzzed through the DC-area, buzzing through an ingeniously selected set of signature tunes from the 1980s at The Fillmore Silver Spring.

The band delivered upbeat good times and invited the bustling crowd at The Fillmore Silver Springs to forget the outside world for a while as they produced a colorful nostalgia package that was lovingly mixed to hit all of the right notes. The band members wore bright clothes, sang with gusto, and elevated their ’80s nostalgia through honest talent and showmanship.
