Preview: Iggy Pop w/ The Molotovs @ The Anthem, 9/29/25

In the mid-2000s, Swedish electronica band Teddybears had been kicking around a bit when they got swept along in the New Rave sound emanating from England. They dusted off a song they previously reported, titled “Punkrocker,” and enlisted perhaps the biggest punk rocker of all time to give it new life with fresh vocals.

Oh, that punk rocker was none other than Iggy Pop, who surfaced the song in live performances for the first time this summer, inspired by its inclusion by James Gunn in the soundtrack for the 2025 Superman film.

Maybe we in DC can hear Iggy sing the song as well? Because he’s performing live at The Anthem on Monday, Sept. 29!

Twenty years ago, blues-rock prodigy Joe Bonamassa opened for one of his idols, BB King, on the main stage at Wolf Trap. He also played at The Barns. On Saturday, he finally got his chance to headline at The Filene Center, thrilling the audience with his virtuosic guitar playing. It was something of a homecoming for Bonamassa, who, as he shared during his set, lived in DC for two years in the late ’90s and still has a DC area code on his cell phone. (He joked that no one answers his calls, because they think it’s the IRS or some other federal agency.)

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Renny Conti continues to establish himself as one of the most compelling new voices in indie music with the announcement of his signing to Mom + Pop Music and the release of his poignant new single, “Valley Ford,” released only days ago. The track marks Conti’s first release since his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which drew comparisons to indie legends like Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens for its emotional depth and raw sincerity.

The rising talent also announced his signing to Mom + Pop Music.

My memory must be faulty because what I and the packed Lucas Hicks Auditorium got instead was an evening of music from the Tony Furtado Trio that ranged across, and above, genre definitions.
