Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region invites you to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival on Saturday, May 4 at a family-friendly music event on the banks of the Anacostia River. The festival will feature an incredible roster of musical talent from throughout the city and surrounding regions, representing diverse backgrounds, cultures, genders, and ages covering bluegrass, folk, and Americana with headliners Dustbowl Revival, The Ballroom Thieves, Hackensaw Boys, and more.
Experimental country/folk artist Odetta Hartman also will perform, and Parklife DC’s Mark Engleson chatted with the New York City singer prior to the Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival. Make sure to put the Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival on your calendar for Saturday, June 9. For just $35 a ticket, you get eight and a half hours of music, from noon to 8:30, with five stages of acts to choose from. The festival is family friendly, including your four-legged children!
The festival has booked a diverse set of outstanding artists to perform this year. Headliners Ganstagrass, known for the Emmy-nominated theme song to the FX series Justified, play a unique brand of bluegrass/hip-hop fusion.
The REI Community Space at Wunder Garten
This Saturday REI is hosting a community gear swap! Bring your used outdoor gear and buy/sell/barter/trade with other outdoor enthusiasts. Check out the details.
It will be held at the Wunder Garten beer garden in NoMa from 12-5pm, with live music, produced by Living Classrooms (they are behind the Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival). $2 of your $7 entrance fee goes to support Living Classrooms.
