Much of Pittsburgh has been embracing a new economy that encompasses industries outside of its traditional steel-town past. Thrill Mill Inc., a nonprofit that provides local entrepreneurs with free resources to grow business, supports the growth of Pittsburgh companies in new frontiers.
To call attention to its mission and raise some money to fund these resources, Thrill Mill this week presents the Thrival Innovation + Music Festival. Starting on Tuesday, Thrival Innovation + Music Festival presents programming around the city to position Pittsburgh as the world leader in post-industrial economic development, and the festival caps the week with a two-day music festival. (Check out all of the programming online.)
Thrival executive producer Dan Law said in a statement, “Recently, Pittsburgh finds itself on a number of ‘top’ lists, but so much of our city remains undiscovered to a broader audience. The festival offers that unique opportunity to witness why Pittsburgh is a modern comeback story.”
Here are Parklife DC, the concept seems like a winner to us, but more importantly, we love music festivals. So if you’re free this weekend, hit up the Thrival Music Festival in Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 23, and Saturday, Sept. 24! The Thrival festival line-up includes The Chainsmokers, Chvrches, Thievery Corp., Metric, Ty Dollar $ign, Hudson Mohawke, Lettuce, Sir The Baptist, and many others.

The theme of the Thrival Festival this year is “Lost and Found,” which extends to the music festival as well. Thrill Mill hosts the bands at the Carrie Furnaces, a national historic landmark that once was part of the historic Homestead Steel Works. And so the festival celebrates reinvention and repurposing.
Those who come to the music festival on Friday and Saturday also can participate in official after-parties for $15-$25, depending on the night. On Friday and Saturday night, after-parties take place at the Rex Theater with bass music producer/DJ Buku on Friday and California psychedelic rock band Chris Robinson and the Brotherhood on Saturday. Tickets for the official Thrival after shows are available at http://www.rextheater.com.
We’re particularly excited that DC hometown heroes the Thievery Corp. are participating in the festival, and we have a particular ear for the music of Chvrches and Metric. So make plans to be there! Tickets are available online.
Lineup: The Chainsmokers, Chvrches, Thievery Corporation, Metric, Ty Dolla $ign, Lettuce, Hudson Mohawke, Rubblebucket, Wild Child, Daya, Cheat Codes, Sir the Baptist, Cappadonna, Killarmy, Bastard Bearded Irishmen, Meeting of Important People, Brooke Annibale, Beauty Slap, Wu Lords, Ezekiel XI, Chalk Dinosaur, and Balloon Ride Fantasy.
